SIBERIAN
HUSKIES - THE BREED TRIBUTE TO REV. CHANCEY HARRELL
Dear Siberian Husky Enthusiast,
Snohomish Boarding and Breeding Sanctuary would be remiss
without going back to its roots and giving tribute to Rev.
Chauncey Harrell. He is now 87 and he invented and installed
an air conditioning system that has supply ducts in front
of the houses and return air in the rear. His many incredible
ideas have been implemented, and this is just one such idea.

His
specially designed dog houses are unique and allow safety
for the animals as well as access for the caregiver. In his
80's, he was cleaning pens, feeding the dogs, and repairing
pens. It was not unusual for him to take a seat or chair in
a sick dog's pen and sing or nurse the dog to health.
On one occasion, he opened a dog's pen and said "Come
on out" to the dog, and the dog started to move out.
Then he changed his command saying "I have changed my
mind" and the dog stopped. Finally to demonstrate his
control, he said "Well...Come on" and the dog happily
ran from its pen. The dogs are happy with his mere presence
and the smile on his face, and each and every dog receives
daily personal attention. This is the basis for a successful
breeding program. Know the dogs, know what they can produce,
and strive for pleasing temperament and good health. All these
ingredients are worthless if the pups are not properly socialized.
Obedience training starts early and starts with the loving
hand of the caregiver. Know the intent of the breeder, and
make your selection wisely. Never buy a pup on impulse.

BOARDING
Snohomish kennel is a licensed boarding kennel for dogs and
cats. Our specialty is the indoor-outdoor larger animal. However,
on occasion, we do board smaller breeds. All boarded animals
are given a grade that is determined by their stress level,
eating habits, elimination and so on. Any dog that is boarded
that does not receive at least a B minus, will not be accepted
again. This is severe, but it allows the owner to determine
and correct what is really bothering the animal.

BREEDING
Snohomish has collected Siberian huskies from around the globe
for a number of years. We are developing our own line, and
we are represented in the show ring. However, we are still
very much involved in working Siberians, and this remains
to be our first love.
We do not compromise the health of a litter to produce an
appealing exterior. We do not compromise the health of a litter
to produce all blue eyes. The most important reason to breed
Siberians is to produce an animal that is healthy as well
as having an exceptional temperament.
The politics of breeding, driven and fueled by money, has
produced many genetic defects, not only in Siberians but in
purebred dogs in general. If a breeder wants to produce a
perfect, show worthy litter there is a price tag, because
there is no perfect animal. Look at the dogs that run the
Iditerod and you will see sturdy, healthy specimens. Probably
very few will do well in the show ring. It is the responsibility
of the breeder to acquaint the buyer to the hard fact that
perhaps the truly most remarkable dog could be the worst show
dog. Let us all applaud the Siberian, as he is a special animal,
and we wish to keep him that way
